So my wife and I started to get back into raising chickens, the last time we had a back yard flock was about 5 years ago. We went to tractor supply and bought 20 chicks yesterday. We have 5 kids we eat a lot of eggs! We got 10 barred rocks and 10 black sex links, they are all supposed to be sexed, but I only have 5 all black chicks so I am worried that they were not properly sexed and I got 5 black sex link roos.Hopefully we can start getting eggs by the end of the year but our winters can be bad sometimes so may not get eggs till the spring. Looking forward to hearing the egg songs!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
There is no egg song. It's an escort call.
The eggs start coming based on the birds breed, sexual development and length of day. Cold weather has very little impact. It will have an impact if the birds are too stressed by not having proper ventilation, space and shelter. Cover those bases and you should have eggs this winter.
