Thanks for all the feedback. I donot have much room left in my garden. I will have to fit the coop in. I donot want them to run wild in my yard. I want somthing small but not too small. I live in Fresno,California.Im not sure of what kind of hens I want. I have had hens years ago I had a big pen for them. I donot have that pen any more are the space were it was located.

I would suggest that you measure the area you want designated for the coop. Then measure how big you want the laying/roost area. Then the run and location of water/feed dish will be placed. Don't forget to get the height of the coop too. There is also a link here, as well as member's sites that can give you an idea of the type of coop you want. I also added a link to another place to help you figure out the coop you wish to build/purchase.

3 - 4 square feet per chicken is optimal for large chicken. For bantams 2-3 per bird. If you are to keep them confined. But letting them roam now and then makes um happy. Remeber 2 banty eggs are equivalent to a large egg. But whatever you decide, that is your choice.. Here is a http://www.belthatchery.com/ that you may wan to look at. Here are a couple more. http://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/index.html & http://www.idealpoultry.com/ . There are 0ther places aswell. http://www.poultryhelp.com/link-hatchery.html

Hope this helps...
