Hi, I'm Rose and I am new here. Wanting to learn about raising chickens. I will be getting some soon to raise. Have never had any before so needing to learn all I can before I get started.

Welcome to BYC! I'm new as well :) I just got 2 baby chicks for valentines day. . I got them when they were one day old and the other when it was 2 days old. I have a blue silkie and an buff Orpington. Do u know what kin of chicken u want and how many..

I think the first step of owning chickens is knowing what kind of chicken is best for u. Are u looking for one that lays eggs ? Would u prefer a calm chicken or it doesn't matter ..

! Pleased to have you with us! I agree with a previous poster - what are your reasons for raising chickens...eggs, meat, both, decoration, pets? All are considerations. Below is a link to a handy dandy chicken chart with lots of breeds - might help you choose. Good luck and enjoy the ride!!

Just a suggestion if ur looking for a pet chicken that is calm and so adorable... U might look into silkies ! They're little fur balls! So adorable! I have a blue silkie and an Orpington my Orpington should lay a good amount of eggs.. And my silkie is my little baby! :)

Thank you all!

I just want some good egg layers. Don't think I could eat something I fed. I've been reading and studying on the black Aust. and the RIR. I do want a calm breed that isn't aggressive I do know that. From what I've read I think I will like the black aust. ones the best.
