Hello there, my name is Valerie.
I have five Lohman Brown, no rooster, that I just recently got, last week

I've had chicken for a good part of my life when I was a kid but these are my first as an adult that I get to care for by my own.

I never knew what type of chickens we had when I was a kid, they weren't Lohman... one of the breed were bigger, some were all black, others were black with a bown head... the other breed we had, well we called them ''Chinese hens''. They were small and had an affro on their head, lol.

Anyway, as you can see, I'm no breed expert but I do hope to learn more.

Welcome to BYC!

I am no expert either in the breed department. If I don't own em', I am clueless!

Hello

and Welcome To BYC! Pretty birds, they should lay really well for you. If you want to be able to tell them apart a little more easily a lot of people use different colored bands or rings on their legs, you can also use small zip ties... ie http://cutlersupply.com/zen_new51/i...Path=6&zenid=b8c2e8b33a4a04877fd2e9a1cb4d1810
Aye, I've got my first egg today!

It is a small one but I recall my childhood's chicken laying small on their first too. I did thought about colored bands but was afraid it might hurt them somehow, I guess it's worth looking into.

very pretty hens - your story makes me curious to see Chinese hens with affros

They were something like this one:

That's a pic from google, no digital camera back then and my childhood house burned down.
