New to BYC, new to having chickens. Received an established flock from a friend. 2 older wyandotte hens ~ 1.5y, 1 same age mixed breed hen, 1 banty ~6 mo, 1 araucana rooster (very quiet/calm). Completely enclosed run (shingled roof) attached to raised coop (4 nesting boxes, pull out drawers).

We are trying. I'm feeling less stupid and clueless daily but still blundering through this.

We received the flock just shy of 2 weeks ago. They are calming down but not yet laying. They were all reported to be good layers minus the banty who had not started laying yet. Eager to learn and have happy chickens

Glad you joined the flock. I'm sure your not blundering everyone started out new to chickens. You have come to the right place for learning. Welcome to the flock. If you go to "where am I, where are you," in the social forum you can locate and post on your state thread. You may find you have some chickeners as neighbors.
 
Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. Wyandottes and Araucanas (you likely have Easter Egger hybrids instead of true Araucanas which are rare, expensive, and have tailless rumps) are both good layers. A lot of hatcheries incorrectly market their Easter Eggers as Araucanas or Ameraucanas (frequently misspelled as Americana or Americauna by the hatcheries). If you are not familiar with the difference, there is a good article at http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2011/09/ameraucana-easter-egger-or-araucana.html explaining the difference between Araucanas, Ameraucanas, and Easter Eggers. Our Easter Eggers are my granddaughter's (pictured in my avatar) favorite chickens. She loves their colored eggs. Your hens should begin laying again after they have settled into their new surroundings. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Hi all I'm a newbie to BYC :) I love my feathered friends I grew up showing chooks mainly Peking bantams old English also a couple of other breeds , now I just have my little collection of silkies and a few hybrids. I fell upon this page and just loved all the little bits of breed info and other bits and pieces and thought I'd jump aboard.
