Thank you for all the welcomes. They are black sex links. I originally wanted a some australorp started pullets until the local breeder informed me he couldn't tell the difference between his black giants and australorps. We're happy with the hens we ended up buying, and all 6 are very friendly and we didnt have to wait months for eggs.

we've had them about 3 weeks so far and weve already been able to give a couple of dozen eggs to our neighbors.

Black Sex Links are friendly and hardy egg laying machines. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds and hybrids), and my Black Sex Links have been my best layers, consistently churning out more than 300 eggs per hen per year. I've especially been impressed with their laying persistence in cold winter weather when my other breeds have dropped off. If your ever confronted with the Black Jersey Giant / Black Australorp delima again, look at the bottoms of their feet. If the bottoms of their feet are yellow, they are Jersey Giants; if they are whitish or grayish, they are Black Australorps.
