Hi! I'm from SC and I have 14 silkies. We started raising chickens last spring and they have took over my life. I love every second of it too! I look forward to asking questions and joining some discussions.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! It certainly sounds as if the chicken math has taken hold. You might like to drop by the silkie thread for all the chat about them. Here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/297632/silkie-thread

I don't have any myself but a friend has a trio and they are lovely birds, so soft and gentle.

Wishing you the very best of luck with your flock in the future.

Continue to enjoy them and BYC :frow

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Silkies are a wonderful breed. They are adorable, sweet, gentle, friendly, and funny little birds. My children made lap pets out of our Silkies. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your Silkies.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

That silkie in your avatar looks very spoiled!

LOL I spoil my hens to death too! Definitely check out the silkie chat thread Yorkshire Coop has left you. Best of luck with your lovely silkies and welcome to our flock!

Oh my your avatar is precious. Are your silkies one color, or do you have an assortment? There are other silkie threads ie., "Only Patridge Silkies, Buff Silkies, Paint silkies, etc. As you guess silkies are a very popular breed. My friend has 2 silkie house chickens + 2 seramas.

Thank you everyone for the nice welcome! We only had white silkies until earlier this week and we got 2 black ones.
Yes the silkie in my avatar picture is spoiled and she's my heart. She is molting right now and the heat isn't helping. Hopefully she will be back to her old self soon!
Thanks for the silkie thread link! I'm going to check it out.

Hi, welcome to BYC!

The little girl in your avatar is a cutie, it sounds as though you're really enjoying your birds.

Our mixed flock is having to deal with hot, humid weather right now too. Some things that seem to make them more comfortable may help your birds too:
* Extra waterers (we put frozen water bottles inside them to cool the water)
* They have natural and man-made shade
* A box fan in the coop, set up to circulate the air without blowing directly on them
* Cooling treats like watermelon and cucumbers
* Spraying down their run floor several times a day

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. It's nice to have you here!
