Made the crew a new home today. Old yard was 18x18, laying boxes were deteriorating. Becoming a slop hole.

Moved them next to teh pond. New yard is 24x24. Put up 7 ft deer netting for perimeter; then moved all the birds. Once i got them moved I dismantled the 4 ft fence and re installed around new yard. Of course it didn’t go all the way; only got one portion didnt make it all the way but i had enough other pieces to finish it out. Only thing left is to put the netting roof over so hawks dont get to them (had 3 circling while i was making the move)... finish the door to new laying boxes so i dont have to go in the coop anymore to get eggs, and move the broody/ time out / growing coop and chickling box.

Definitely had my hands full today!!!

Oh, for those of you wondering. I have 18 birds. 16 hens 2 roos. I have 15 in this yard free range and 3 have about another month in the growing coop. Ive had alot more but the free ranging without a roof or actual penned in yard doesnt work around here. Hawks coons & owls have a field day..

My lineup is as follows

2018 buff orpington (2)
2018 Fluffy - cochin (rooster)
2018 Amelia- red
2019 russian orloff

Nice. I used to duck hunt around roanoke area. Nothing but rice fields !! Lol

My subdivision is on top of a former cattle pasture, surrounded by cane fields on 2 sides with a rice field across the highway haha

Only thing I have to worry about out here with the chickens are hawks. I’ve been fortunate so far though. A buddy of mine that lives within a mile of me have had 2 taken recently.
