What did you use to make the holes?

11/32 drill bit...nipples are not completely flush with container but they screwed up tight at the base and are not leaking so all is well.good luck with yours.....I have 17 chicks in brooder so I may add another nipple,seems like there is always one or two at it drinking but they are not fighting over it!!!!

who ever came up with these should be a bizillionare !!!!! lolol..no more dirty water or cleaning out water tray twice a day from chickens scratching and throwing stuff every where!!

yea you can can buy one like this already made up for $25 bucksor get a 5 pack of nipples for like $6 bucks and make your own and have nipples left over to rig up in buckets for your coop!!! no brainer there!!!!

I know, I have both options, lol. They haven't taken to the verticle nipples yet.

So I paid a ridiculous price for the 2 gallon bucket with verticle nipples, the chicks did start using it which is great! However, temps dropped here again and froze water inside one of the nipples causing the thin metal to be bent out of shape so now it leaks and I have to buy more nipples.

My Husband made a little test waterer with the horizontal nipples and he said they are made better in his opinion. I agree they look more "robust" then the vertical ones.

Price wise, I spent $23 on the 2 gallon waterer from Amazon. And then $12 or less on the 3 gallon one using the horizontal nipples. I like the horizontal better. Ideally I'd like to find a square or rectangular container that's food grade and BPA free. This works for now.
