Hello everyone! My name is Mary Ellen. My husband and I bought a new home last December, which included eight chickens and a large chicken coop. Having only cats and dogs before, this is a new experience for us. The breeds consist of Black Morans, Black Copper Morans, and one little lady we are unsure about. I'm going to research this site to figure it out. I love going out in the evenings to collect eggs and feed treats to the girls (we rehomed the one rooster).

My favorite activity is camping. We enjoy visiting the beautiful state parks in Washington and the surrounding states. Our daughter lives close to us, so she takes care of the chickens while we are traveling. Our Beauceron dog loves to camp with us and is not overly interested in the chickens when we are home.

Our daughter, a vet tech, encouraged us to keep chickens when we bought our home, so we are both learning how to care for these curious and intelligent creatures together.

Hello and Welcome to BYC @EmmyLo!:frow😊 It's great to have you here. Chickens are very great friends to have, you will love them!
And, if you still need help figuring out what that mystery hen of yours is, feel free to post a pic here!:D
Thank you so much. May I introduce you to Pepper? She is the first to greet me daily, and we don't know her breed. Pepper lays pale green eggs. I hope this is a good enough picture for her breed to be identified.
