We all have to start somewhere, and you have picked a good place to learn the ropes. My main suggestion: Build bigger than you think you will need. I bought a homemade coop for the THREE hens I planned to get; I came home with four.

I now have 19 hens and a roo -- living in a variety of coops and one who is still inside my house.
