New in Indiana

Hi, thank you for including me! I am new and do NOT have chickens yet! A friend gave me an old coop, with plans that I will repair it and she will take her thanks in eggs . I'm in the learning stages of chickens, so I joined your site to help me get started. I work for the state of Indiana, in food safety. I am married and have 2 boys. We have many other pets, and we do animal rescue. I anticipate taking in some chickens that are in need of homes at some point! I live in the suburbs but have a fairly large backyard. We have 3 dogs who are all used to the little critters and I'm hoping will help protect our new friends. I appreciate any and all help! Thanks again.

Thanks so so much!! Such friendly and welcoming folks! I will definitely read up on all I can. I have not made any decisions on what kind of chickens...so many beautiful and wonderful breeds! It will be hard to decide. I'm sure you all can help me when the time comes. Great weekend everyone!
