That would be awesome, I appreciate it! And as for fermented feed, I have not heard much about it.

It is the best thing since backyard chickens.
I swear by it..even though I can not repeat the "facts" of using it.

there is a million posts on that thread...but the basics are..put feed in a bucket..cover with water...let it sit a few days and then feed out.

So easy..and such great benefits for the birds.

I will check that out! I've actually noticed some of my older pullets purposefully scratch their dry feed into their water bowl, then peck it out with relish. I also often added water to my senior dog's food to make it more 'flavorful' and easy to chew. It makes sense that chickens may appreciate that too. Thanks for the tip!

Nice to meet you two! Great looking flock so far; excited to see them grow as I know you are!

My wife and I are actually moving to Justin, TX very soon and will have 2 chickens when we move in too! Where did you purchase your chicks from? I know of a few places in Grapevine and Tractor supply in Roanoke also-- Just not a large selection.

Hey Justin and Samantha! Nice to meet y'all as well Good luck on your move. My husband and I were actually in that area recently when we bought our female rabbit, Bella. We drove past a nice feed store in Argyle. I think it's just called "Argyle Feed and Hardware". I know there should also be a couple feed stores in Denton, though I haven't been to them yet. I got my Silkies off a nice lady from Craigslist, and my ameraucanas, sexlink, RIR and Buff from Roach Feed & Seed in Garland. I got my cuckoo marans from Wells Brothers in Plano, but I would not recommend them. Roach has much better customer service and more of a selection. Best of luck! You guys will be in a very pretty area of DFW from what I saw. Gorgeous sunsets.

Thanks for the warm welcome! Haha that is very true. My poor mom is already sick of seeing all my bunny/chicken photos. She says I'm worse than a new parent lol

I forgot to mention we have the coolest pup- Shiner, an 8 year old short haired Jack Russell Terrier. It's going to take some training but he should do OK with the chickens. I am going to have them in a large run most of the time but hope to train him to not try to eat them every time they are out--- Might be tough. Any suggestions?

Hey Justin! Aww sweet doggy. I hope the transition goes smoothly for y'all! I have a terrier/pitbull mix who is in his teens but still has the energy of a puppy. He's actually quite good with chickens, much to my surprise. We were all expecting him to go wild but he just ignores them. The one we actually have more trouble with is my parents' golden retriever/great Pyrenees mix. Before letting her into the same area as the chickens, my mom used to put her in a large cage where she can see and interact with them but can't attack. She'd do this with her for anywhere from 30 min to an hour each afternoon until she got used to them. Now they can be loose in the same area, but we still closely supervise her. She doesn't chase them now, but she's still a little too interested. You can tell when she goes into 'hunt' mode because she gets very still and hyper-focused on the birds. When we notice her acting like that we yell and make lots of noise to break her focus. I hope this helps! I'm sure there are some good threads here about training dogs to behave with chickens. I need to check them out myself
