Hi everyone, I am new to this thread and have not actually started raising chickens yet but am doing research and this site has been fabulous so far. So HELLO from the High Desert in Colorado!
I actually have a 40 acre yard so am planning to have quite a few chickens and will not make some folks my friends by saying I plan to raise layers as well as feeders. We are trying to go off grid within the next 2 years and this is where we plan to start. If anyone has any ideas, let me know. I am looking at Rhode Island Reds since they are a heritage breed with good laying and feeding potential. Also, they are not so genetically messed up as to be full grown within 8-12 weeks. That is just SCARY.
Thanks in advance to any ideas and advice. I will be looking at the Colorado thread closely for good tips.
