I'm new to the whole chicken experience and will be asking a lot of questions I'm sure!
I have a pair of white silkies and a game cock with a speckled hen...don't know their breeds.
I hope to raise a couple more silkies and a couple more from the speckled hen and then have enough eggs too feed us and maybe a few extra for others.

Greetings from Kansas, Tammy, and

Welcome!

As you have already received links to some good starting points, I will just wish you all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

Silkies are not known  as great layers  but, they usually are very good broodies.   I wouldn't count them as a source of eggs for you.

I got them because they are so pretty! I want to hatch a few more. I was shocked she laid 3 eggs.
The chicken coop they are in doesn't get much light, so I'm going to add one on a timer and see if that is the problem. My speckled hen was laying also until I put them in there, so it's a good chance that's the problem.
