Hello from Stanardsville, Va. I had a chance a few weeks back to get a bunch of free lumber and tin roofing, so I built a chicken coop and went out and bought a set of 7 Partridge Chantecler hens and 1 roo. they have been great fun. We already want more chickens and have been learning quite a bit from this site. I would love to share some pics but my camera is acting up and the computer is`nt reconizing it. The coop I built is 8`X 8' 8' high in the front 6.5' back. The run is pretty big but I did`nt measure, just put it up with the free fencing I removed for a customer of mine. I do landscaping and excavation. So far our total investment in chicken farming is about $130, and that includes the birds, feed, housing, and all supplies. I am a pack rat by nature and love to use free and or reclaimed materials.

Thanks for all the good info

Hi and Welcome, neighbor!

Congrats on your tiny startup investment! That's great! I'm always using scraps and leftovers and freebies myself, and it really makes a difference.

Glad you are enjoying your new chickens. Aren't they the coolest?

Thanks for the warm welcome. I got really lucky on my coop materials. Right place at the right time. It is real easy to get caught up in the excitement of a project and overspend. I know I do on most of my around the house projects.
