Hello!! I've been a part of this group since last summer when we bought our new house and knew we wanted to raise chickens. I am finally finding time to surf this page and so looking forward to learning! Here are my answers to the guided questions!!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes, we are new!! Have been around chickens before but never raised them!! Wanting to learn some first before we get chicks. We did buy a coop and need to get it setup!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
None just yet.

(3) What breeds do you have?

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
My sister-in-law is a member and suggested it to me when we said we were looking to raise chickens!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love to craft, doing work with painting wood and vinyl. Love camping, hiking, and being outdoors soaking up the sun!

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I coach volleyball and also play. I also work at a chiropractor office. My husband and I just bought a house on 4 acres and can't wait to start a little farm!! We have a 4 month old German Shorthair Pointer named Bruce and no kids yet but some point down the road!!

Welcome to Backyard chickens!

Good luck on your chicken raising adventure. You will love it!

welcome! I'm north of Seattle. we have just 10,000 sf, so I'm a bit jealous, but we do manage to harvest roughly 1,500 eggs a year from 6 layers and grow out about 70 meat birds as well for our family of 4. overall, we've had a great experience and feel that it's been worthwhile and this site has helped a lot, lots of great people and suggestions! welcome to the Northwest chickeners club! :~)

Welcome rebeccanicole!!! As a first time chicken mama you have found THE place to be! Prepare for hours of informative, often hilarious, first hand accounts of the does and don'ts of raising chickens :p I myself am waiting on my babies to arrive and find most of my spare time spent lurking these forums

Have you thought about what breeds you might want to have in your flock? Here's a great chart on chicken personalities, egg production, and histories! : http://www.sagehenfarmlodi.com/chooks/chooks.html

Also, if you're going to raise from chicks, check out these awesome threads!
