Hello all! Here is my brief intro --
My family and I are jumping into the world of backyard chickens. I've had chickens as a child and I've always wanted some with my own family! Recently in my classroom we hatched out several chicks for a family who owns a farm. I fell in love with chickens all over again and decided to go ahead and finally start that small backyard chicken coop I've always wanted. We are starting with four chicks (just over a week old), possibly five. I know some from caring for them already at school, but I'm going to soak up all the information I can in the next few days. I know they are too little for the chicken coop yet, so it buys me some time to get everything sorted out.
I don't know the breeds yet, but they are basically all assorted and mixed. I'm not even sure which are hens or roosters, so that may be a big surprise too. I haven't picked out which chicks we want, so I'm also trying to find any info of possible indications of male/female (I read about wing/feather differences, sometimes color differences, etc..).
I look forward to learning about this whole new world! ;)

Her names tortuga. She lives with a fish

Love your turtle - does she try to eat the fish? Ooh just noticed Tortuga was tiny nails, guess I never looked that closely at turtles before.
As a child had a tiny turtle from the Dime store (boy is that dating me) and they only sold turtle food- which later found out was just dead flies, ended up with quickly dead turtle.

:welcome:yesss:

Hey @drumstick diva , I remember the dime store turtles, too! M. E. Moses was the name of the store. They sold for $3 , I thought that was expensive. :lau
