Hey y'all!
Although before the age of 6 I was raised on a farm, I am new to chickens. I found my first hens on Facebook on a swapper site about 3 years ago. It was a mixed flock of 2-3 year old hens.
I currently have 2 hens Blackie (Black Australorp) and Red (RIR). I know she is a chicken but I named her after my first horse when I was a little girl. We are a multicultural home and my girls sometimes call her La Rosa Negra which means black rose in Spanish. I also have 24 baby chicks. Because I have lost my mind this spring with the fever!
Black Australorp (She’s the best!), RIR (She has an attitude problem!) 1 Silkie, 11 Easter Eggers, 6 Lavender Orpington/ Red Sexlink mix. 2 Sapphire Gems and 2 Barred Rocks.
The eggs but mostly their amazing personalities. I also love that my children are learning about taking care of and respecting animals that provide a small food portion for our family.
I’m a soccer mom, soccer coach’s wife and an occasional assistant coach. Our daughters play for their Middle School and High School teams as well as a competitive rec. league. My thoughts are if you haven’t adopted all the kids who cross your path are you even really a parent? Especially those amazing kids whose parents never get to see them play. I also love travel, fishing, camping, the outdoors and binge-watching television with my girls if the weather doesn’t allow those enjoyments.
We live in an urban setting but also recently went into a joint venture with our nina on some “hunting land”. We are hoping to turn into a homestead someday. We are a large family and our girls Nina does most everything with us as well as all our girls friends. We are also the proud pets of Chikita a rescued tabby, Chapo a German Shepherd Dog and Zeus and Lola a New Zealand and Lion head bunnies.
I lucked upon the site looking for information and find myself here daily. I LOVE that there is new information as well as archived information available. I enjoy the community and learning so much. I am also grateful for the pictures.
