That's not a bad idea, Jill. At the Chickenstock I just went to in NYS everyone had on name tags. I did try to have a BYC meet-up at the last show in the spring. Put up signs and a time and location and everything, then no one showed up! Then people came home and were like - I was there and didn't see anyone.

So maybe wearing a name tag is the way to go. Hope to see you there. If you don't see me running around, text me - 732-747-0960. I'll have the phone in my pocket, and for some reason it seems to vibrate more with a text than with a call.

Exactly Jill!!! BJ roo staggered a lot (like a drunk) but is getting better now as his feathers are mostly in. Ellie - poor dear Ellie - walks sideways and crouches all weird like (cowers). She is a sorry sight! She tried going back up on a perch this morning (unusual because she usually can't wait to get outside) and fell, poor dear (luckily into a nice bed of pine shavings and not a far fall - maybe 15 inches to a low perch she was trying for but she still found it very disconcerting and I had to comfort her

) - she fell because her wings are really compromised from few feathers remaining. Her butt is bare, her neck and top of her head bare, her legs bare, lots of the rest of her bare. For her sake, I'm going to keep them in a lot during this cold rainy windy spell as she almost seems too loopy to do this on her own and she is normally as sharp as a tack, and then some!. I knew she was reaching the point where she can't act in her own best interest when she turned down mealworms this morning. Thank goodness she ate some bird seed mixture, normally a snack at either end of the day but right now one of the only things she'll accept. I have heat on for them too, early by most people's standards but she is really cold with all that bare skin.......

Nat seems to have the best reputation for hatching success with her eggs. Everyone else also has 100%.

Hi,
I am in NJ also. I am in Bergen county. Can you believe it, my town allows chickens:)
anyone had their hens go through a molt. It is a bit scary to witness molting.
I am worried that the feathers will not come in fast and the nights are getting so cold.
Any suggestions about this, please let me know,
thanks,

Extra protein helps! I give mine yogurt and shredded cheese and scrambled egg to speed the feather growing. I have one hen that waits until Dec. to molt! As long as they are draft free they seem to be OK!

Hi Jill - I went straight from work to Rosedale and got there about 7:15. Stayed for a 1/2 hour to see if I could spot you and say hi but I didn't readily spot you and the guy talking during that time didn't let up for air for me to politely survey more closely! So sorry to miss you if you were there.

I had to leave because I was worried about Ellie and didn't want her to get a chill waiting for me to tuck her in - while she and BJ were safely inside a coop that's inside a larger locked building, until I shut the coop door it can be drafty for a naked bird!

I wish I could have stayed because there was some less than accurate information being dispensed and I would have liked to hear the whole thing and offer some polite additional info...I was able to interject one comment about food grade DE but that was all during the time I was there.
