I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Hello, from Dayton Ohio. :)

I apparently joined several years ago and never did anything with it. Now that I have my girls, I tried to signup only to find that I already had. So here's a three-year overdue "Hi!".

I've always loved animals, and have a dog, a cat, goldfish, a beta fish. I've been interested been interested in keeping chickens for ages and finally did it two weeks ago. I got three buff Orpingtons (Helga, Mae, and Dorothy) and three black sex links (Agatha, Edith, and...still working on another name). They're about a month old now and growing fast! It's been fascinating watching their personalities emerge from being timid chicks to crazy-feathered teenagers. So far, black sex link Edith is already ruling the roost. My dad's a real handyman, so we've been drawing up plans for a coop that he'll help me build. After reading reviews for the kits you can buy at at TSC, I decided I'd rather spend a bit more and make something that'll last for my girls.

I introduced my dog to them a few days ago and held her firmly by the collar as I had her peer into the chicks tub. Much to my surprise, she's terrified of them! I'd much rather she be afraid of them, then want to hunt them. Even so, she'll never be allowed near them once they're big enough to be outside in a run.

Anywho, I'm happy to join this very knowledgeable group, as I'm sure that before too long I'll have all sorts of questions!
Yeah I was at TSC today looking at their 2.5 hen it seemed to me coop for 799 I just had a good giggle with my wife. Then we noticed we weren't alone another couple was ACTUALLY looking at them to buy so we went inside. oopsies

Wow, thanks everyone! I'd quote and respond to you all one by one, but I'm not super advanced when it comes to forums, so I'll just say THANKS! :D I'm excited to read that ebook, Teila! Thanks for sending it my way! And Kikisgirls, that video is just what I need! I'll try to get some pics of my girls soon and post them.
