In the Brooder
Hey Guys,
New to raising chickens, but I've had an interest and seen value in it for quite some time. My fiancee and I rent so I assumed that having chickens was not possible, but we were talking to our landlords and they were very open to the idea, so we jumped on the opportunity. I was overwhelmed by the amount of breeds available and how beautiful they were, but ultimately we bought from TSC because all of the local people selling only had straight run and TSC had pullets available. Our town has a permit that would be required for a rooster, and that was one of the stipulations our landlords gave us... NO ROOSTERS.
We currently have chicks that are 4 Orpingtons, 2 Barred Rocks all of which are <1 week old, as well as 2-3 more feather footed chicks that we are receiving from a friend in a few weeks when they hatch. Currently we are in the works of getting approval for the coop and the run that we will be building in the back yard, but in the meantime these chicks keep us quite entertained! The design process is terribly exciting as both my fiancee and I are interested in basic carpentry, but this is the largest project either one of us has taken on to date.
All in all, we are very excited to have made this leap as we intend to maintain this indefinitely! Glad I joined this forum as I have used this for a resource while doing my research!
