Hello everyone so today i was bored and decided i was going to do what i have wanted to do for years : which was breed quails! So i went down to my local pet store and brought 5 quail - 1 male and 4 female. As i was adding their feed to the pen, 3 off then flew away. I managed to retrieve 2, but sadly i have no clUe as to where my other quail went. luckily the quail that went missing was a female and not my only male. And i just want to know how i can breed my quails sufficiently and effective. Oh and by the way I live in australia and it is currently the beginning of winter, during the day it becomes quite hot and humid. (25-30 degrees Celsius) and during night it becomes around 17-21 degrees celcius. I dont want to risk losing a clutch of eggs so I am going to use an incubator. By the way I am planning on making an incubator within the next couple of days if anyone had any suggestions or tips I would love to hear all of them. And how long does it take for fertilised eggs to be lay? Do any of you recommend I do not incubate the eggs? All of your comments are much appreciated x
King Quail, also known as Button Quail are kept in pairs only year round. They will fight if you keep more than one pair together. They are not cold hardy either and must be kept inside the house. You can keep them in glass aquariums or small spaced wire bird cages. You can put in fake foliage and other hidey spaces to keep them comfortable or for laying eggs. Wood shavings make great bedding. Feed them gamebird food and offer up a small tray with sand for dust bathing.
You will want to stop by our Quail section for more help with raising these cute birds. Lots of Button quail owners there...
