I'm glad the building inspector got called too, lol! I'm pretty sure he was planning to slap some paint on the walls and try to rent it out. I knew the previous owner quite well and he literally only used two rooms plus the downstairs bathroom. The rest of the house is in horrible condition. He was renovating until the divorce broke him. There is a lot of work to be done over there to get it up to code.
Mr. Felts was outside this morning when I went out to feed the chickens. He had a much better attitude, to my surprise. He even said good morning to me! He just wanted to ask about the property line. We have a tree and brush line between the back yards. Our property goes about 8 feet past that. I told him he could have the same arrangement as the previous owner. Keep up on the lawn and you can use it. I also told him that if its not kept up or if the tenants cause problems I will have a privacy fence put up. My landlord, my uncle, has already said that he will pay for the permit to put up an 8 foot fence if I don't think a 6 foot fence will be sufficient.
I really don't want to have problems with him, and I am willing to be neighborly. I will not tolerate asinine behavior from him or any future renters, though. So far, so good. Mr. Felts said that he had no problems with keeping up on the lawn, said thank you, and shook my hand. I can't help but be a little suspicious, though. Maybe I'm getting cynical but I doubt it. At least I have the law on my side and BYC members to vent to.
PS Glenn, the city guy called and asked, "What kind of chickens were those black and white ones again?" He has decided to get a few Dominiques, lol!
