Hi everyone and thank you for letting me join. I have been reading lots of threads but never actually joined. I'm new to SEQLD and new to chickens. I have about 10-15 different breeds that we feed but we can't bring ourselves to eat the eggs lol I know it's silly but it's mind over matter. It's just something nice for us and the kids to do on our property. We also have geese. 1 of our chickens just hatched 3 babies so that's our excitement right now lol. I'm sure you will see more of me posting questions on the forum and I will apologise now for any silly questions I ask and believe me there will be questions lol xx

If it helps you want to eat their eggs, think of the eggs you buy in the grocery store as being from 5-6 birds confined to little tiny pens, so small that one bird cannot spread her wings, living in noise, filth and constant bright lights (don't think that "free-range" birds necessarily have it much better) - as opposed to the birds you nurture and see every day, where you know what they eat and their state of health. It really is mind over matter at the beginning, after that you will never believe you preferred store-bought.
 
I get where you are coming from. My mother is refusing to eat any eggs we get, she says it freaks her out. Welcome to the site, I'm glad you have joined us!

if it's any comfort, if you don't have a rooster the eggs cannot be fertile (no chicks inside)- my friend has had various house chickens over the past 20 plus years and she never eats the eggs either

Maybe a neighbor would like them.
