New mama due to hatch eggs in 4 days - how do I prepare?

Will it be a problem that the nest is a foot off the floor?

In my experience, no. The chicks will hop off and follow their mama wherever she goes.

Sally hatched 3 of the 4 eggs this morning. She is still sitting on the lady egg and her new babies. They are all doing well. Thank you for all the great information.

Thank you! Yes she seems very dedicated. I was hoping this would happen some day. We have only had chickens for a little over a year. We have hatched all of them in an incubator and now that some of them are a year old, I was hoping for the opportunity to experience at least one of them having their own babies naturally. It is so beautiful watching her be a mama.
