Being in new to the backyard chickens… how vocal is a ‘silkie rooster’. I am allowed chickens where I live, but not roosters. I know he can’t be as loud as obnoxious as both neighbors very large dogs. I really don’t want to get rid of him.

He'll be loud and because he's illegal you don't have a leg to stand on. You need to rehome him.

When we first got silkies, I had read the roosters don't crow as loud as regular chickens, and that some wouldn't even crow.

I've heard lots of other roosters crow, and maybe the silkies' crow is just a tiny tad quieter, but still enough to get us out of bed if they're under our bedroom window. We have had dozens of roosters, and every single one of them crowed.

I'm sorry, but even if you kept him in your house, he'd still crow.

Thank you for responding. Little sad. Although he’s more aggressive than the girls… he eventually gets in my lap for some love. So I’m going to be sad about this.
