New Marans

We have cuckoo marans that are now 5 weeks old we have 16 girls and 3 roos. I love these chicks they are awesome. I can't wait to get their beautiful eggs and raise somemore. I think it is great the way you can tell the girls from the roos because of the light coloring of the roos.

I have cuckoo marans also and I love the breed. Mine are large,calm birds and are excellant layers. They make wonderful mothers. Right now I have 3 hens in various stages, one with 6 chicks,one hatching this week and one that I set with eggs this past Sunday. This is the only breed I have had where the hen removes the hatched egg shells from her nest and once she hatches her babies,she rolls the unhatched eggs into a corner,out of the way. Earlier in the Spring,for about 3 weeks straight, every one of the hens laid an egg every day.
