New me

Oh just seen this:

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I have never kept chickens before (well, my parents did when I was 3) and I am about to get 6 Coturnix Quail and 1 silkie hen
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
None yet
(3) What breeds do you have?
See (1)
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
The dream of self-sufficiency
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Farming, farming, hiking, farming (but previously I have only farmed sheep & cattle)
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have a 14 yr old border terrier dog, and I work on a farm.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
Research!

you might want to get several silkies as they can not be kept with quail and don’t do well in solitary confinement. Not to sound rude.

Hello and welcome to BYC!

Definitely keep the Silkie hen separate from the Quail, different feed requirements, different roosting requirements and chickens can carry disease that show no symptoms that kill quail.

Enjoy this new adventure!

Ah ok thanks for the tip before it's too late! Can I keep multiple silkies with quail or do the two species need to be separate?
