Hi. Joined the forum for the great information available on raising chickens. This is our second time raising chickens for eggs. The first time, we got 4 young pullets from a friend and in a few months had more eggs than we could consume. Unfortunately, rats began to invade the area and we started losing chickens one by one. When we were down to just one chicken, a stray dog broke in to the coop and finished her off. That was several years ago. This spring, now that I am retired, I got 4 chicks and started raising egg layers again (Isa Browns). Believe me when I say "All rats will be kept at bay!" The chicks are now about 4 months old, no eggs yet, and I am rat-proofing the coop.
