Hi,
My name is Kimberley Cherry. My husband, Steve and I have built an awesome small coop with a secured and large run, where we hope to have 4 chickens some day.
We have decided that since we are newbie chicken parents, it would be best to put off buying them until the spring when we have better weather to have our first experience. We are retired designers, artists, woodworkers, living on Lake Huron on 20 acres of Paradise. We have a malamute, named Lucca and our neighbors, immediate neighbors are those of the woods...moose, bear, coyote, hawks, eagles.
I would appreciate advice on buying laying hens in the spring...The breeds I am interested in are: Barred Plymouth Rock, Rhode Island Red, Black austrlop, and Leghorn. There are plenty of Mennonite farmers in this area and others that are raising chickens. Supplies are nearby at our local Hardware and Feed Store.
We like the idea of being on this forum, where we can learn from others, get advice and hear of other adventures in chicken world.
