Hello! I finally get to have and raise chickens! My dad worked in poultry up to 2 years ago( he did not retire from full time until he was almost 78), so a child I could not have chickens. Then when I met husband my 10 years ago, he thought at one time he would end up with his fathers poultry farm, but about a year ago, he decided against it. This past fall a friend gave me an Anacona Rooster and hen and I got the bug! I recently found a small hatchery not too far away and since I just love various fowl, got several different breeds to begin with, including a Pheasant. I do have one young breeding pair, but otherwise, got 2 almost grown roosters and some different chicks. Once I find what I want to raise then can choose better for pairs. I am just excited to have them and NOW have got to learn the various breeds! I do have a Blue silkie and a Sussex and Mike did tell me the other breeds and said feel free to call him or his partner with any questions, and not to feel dumb while I am learning the breeds, he will remind me what they are! I have a friend who will be hatching out some turkeys soon, and plan to get some from her. I also ordered some Cuckoo Silkie eggs and Bred Fowl eggs that she is going to hatch for me. Yea, I get into something, I do it all out...........lol..........

I have been raising Myonotic Goats for a few years and those somewhat led to me raising and showing Miniature Horses and then year and half ago added Shetlands..(may I brag, had first GRAND National Champion 2012) We also have Miniature Zebu Cattle-one of cows had twins Dec 2, one had to be bottle fed,but both are now weaned and doing great! , 1 Llama, one Jenny, and 5 "regular" horses(Quarter horse, 2 Paints, 1 Appy and 1 Missouri Fox Trotter) plus 5 LGDs who I hope to train at least one to guard poultry, 1 ES, 5 family pets-1 a small mix breed we raised on a bottle who has made the best goat dog you could ask for!!, several farm cats, then 3 inside cats-including a Sphynx, 1 Amazon Parrot, 1 Nanday Conure and 2 ferrets!

Look forward to getting to know other chickie people!

Started this and got busy. eggs came in today! wooooohoooooooo

! Great to have you with us! Wow! You've had a lot of critter experience! I'm thinking about entering the wonderful world of goats myself! I think with you're background, chicken keeping will be a snap! Good luck and enjoy the ride! Oh, and good luck with your hatching! BYC has a great Incubating/Hatching thread.
