New member and kinda overwhelmwd

There's a product called sweet pdz (pet deodorizer) that you can buy for making it not stink. I'm new at this, too, but there's a whole thread that talks about sweet pdz and poop boards (good things). It's working for me so far, not smelly, particularly. I didn't research it, I read it's a mineral that won't harm the birds even when they eat it.

Wow. I needed to knwo more about this. So at 18 wks, they start molting and it takes 8-12 weeks to finish? Then as adults, what once a year in fall, or spring, too? Does it always take 8-12 weeks, and sometimes not laying eggs?
Chicks go through about three mini-molts as they grow their adult plumage.
At 18 months... ish they go through their first adult molt.
It is generally thought that the adult molts are triggered by lack of daylight. I feel stress plays a large roll. Shortened days and colder nights are forms of stress. But I had a broody hen who started molting in the heat of August when her chicks were 5 weeks old.
Some do it slowly, a little at a time.
Others go all out and drop tons of feathers in a day or two.
And some, don't bother at all! These girls look horrible in during their 18 to 30 month age range as they are sporting very ragged feathering.
It is a necessary process that demands a lot of energy so egg production should and does come to a stop. Their bodies need time to recover before they start laying again.
