Hi all,

I'm a brand new member but have been a lurker for about a year. I would love to have some chickens, but at the moment, where I live, Ridley Township in PA has a very strong ordinance against any farm critter, which was passed in 2011.

I would love to get this changed and be able to have a small flock in my little fenced in backyard - thinking like 2-3 hens. My plan is to make some flyers up and post them in various locations around the township to try to attract like minded individuals who I could work with to present and educate the commissioners about backyard chickens. Maybe I'm being naive, but the next town over allows chickens, as do several in our county, so I'm hoping it is just a matter of education and expressing enough interest from residents to overturn this.

If anyone has any experience doing this and would like to give me the benefit of their experience, I would love to hear it!

Thanks - Look forward to the day that I can boast about my hens!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

I have never had to change any laws on keeping poultry. So I am not sure. But you might stop by this section of the forums, Local Chicken Laws And How To Change Them. Maybe you can glean some info there on how to get your laws changed...

Good luck and I hope you can get these laws changed soon!

Good luck! It can be accomplished. Local communities are changing regulations fairly routinely.
