(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

We got our chickens in the fall and they stayed down in our basement until they were big enough to go outside. We have Isa Reds (11 of them) and they are incredibly hearty creatures. They survived our long Michigan winter and loved it.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

We started with 11 but my son wanted Ameraucana's because they lay green or blue egg. We also got some barred chickens.

(3) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

I heard about this because Grand Rapids, MI has a law against backyard chickens and our neighbors want us to get rid of it. I was looking for ways to fight this rule and was hoping that their might be people in Grand Rapids who are also on this forum and willing to stand together to attempt to repeal this law.

(4) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

We lived in West Africa for 17 years before returning to the US. While in Africa we had chickens, ducks, pigs; a regular menagerie. Coming to the States was difficult for my kids and we have rabbits and we thought chickens would be a great filler for the meat the rabbits provide. Unfortunately our neighbor isn't to happy with us. We also have two dogs a chi weenie and a chug and 2 guinea pigs.
