Hello everyone! I'm Stephanie and I live in Seattle. I've wanted some egg laying hens for probably at least the last 6 years or so but I lived in a HOA that wouldn't allow them.

I have moved though and I am finally living my dream!!

I said I only wanted 4-6 chicks....well, after I visited the feed store, I now have 6 and tomorrow I'm getting two more so I'll have a total of 8.

-2 Silver Laced Wyandottes
-1 Black Sex Linked
-1 Speckled Sussex
-1 Rhode Island Red
-1 Barred Rock

Tomorrow I'm hoping to get a Black Australorp and a Golden Wyandotte! I'm so excited and grateful to have a resource like this website :)

! Great to have you in our community! Sounds like you've been bitten by the chicken bug....but beware of that "chicken math."

What's starts at 4 chicks expands to 8...and then 12....and then ducks....turkeys....geese...goats!

BYC is here to help with any questions you might have along the way. The Learning Center is an awesome archive of informative articles:

And here are two links about raising chicks you might find useful:

Best wishes and thanks for joining BYC!

Beautiful rainy, wet Seattle. Home of famous glass blower Dale Chihuly.
Great artist.

Meanwhile....away from that nasty HOA. You want chickens, you gotta
have chickens. A little this, a little that, and you've got a flock.

Live your dream, and let us be here for any questions that come up.

Spook

Welcome to BYC and congratulations on finally realizing your dream of having chickens! Sounds like you have already grasped the concept of chicken math, lol.

Welcome & Congratulations!

As you have already received links to some good starting points, I will just wish you all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
