Hello Eggers,
I am new to the chicken game looking for some breed advice.
What should I look for in my chickens and what are the best breeds for laying eggs in the urban back yard?
Thanks!

I would say Buff Orpingtons or maybe Easter Eggers or speckled sussex!! They are alot of good chicken breeds out there to choose from.

Glad you joined!

Australorps are very friendly, and lay big brown eggs... They hold the world record for amount layed in a year. Next I'd say Golden Comets. They friendly and can lay as much as an Australorp. Speckled Sussex are great as well. Rhode Island Reds are good Layers too. My Buff Orps lay 3-4 eggs a week. My others, almost daily. Check out hatchery websites, there you can learn alot about chickens and their personality, and lay rates! good Luck!

I guess my favorite egg-layers would be the Rhode Islands... next would be the Barred Rocks. My standard Cochins are my all time favorite chicken across the board and they too lay well, but not as heavy as the RR or BR -
