Randomly found this topic.... as a child/teen one of my chores was to brake ice for my ducks! They had a pen for the really stormy days but they loved being on the pond in winter! They will do fine in the cold.

Sounds like you need a flock of baby geese instead. Just make sure you can get your ducks back after the geese are sold.

I actually love geese as well, it seems many people hate on geese even more than ducks for geese reputation as being more loud/annoying/aggressive... unless that’s your point, annoy her with baby geese into letting me keep the ducks...

That is my point . I like geese, but I got rid of ours when they started trying to take advantage of my sons and my visually impaired husband.

Why does your aunt want them gone? are they bothering her?

They aren’t. She doesn’t even live in the house with us, or even next door but down the street. She just hates the idea for some reason, even though her husband (who is the one who actually comes over and maintains this house) is okay with the ducks. I think she thinks they can’t go outside in winter because they’ll freeze, therefore will be indoors and make the house smell like duck. Even though we told her they’ll be fine outside...

They prefer outside, even in blizzards up until about somewhere between 0 and 10 degrees F.

As in, they will swim in water still (not that I think they should).

Some people just can't be convinced, and if that is the case, then BYC would be an ideal place to rehome them.

But hopefully the aunt will be convinced. Pet ducks DO NOT fly south for the Winter, seriously, they are perfectly content to run through the snow, in fact they enjoy it!
