Hello All

New here and new to chickens!

No experience with chickens but more then willing to learn.

My wife and I live in Northern Ontario CANADA on just under 50 acres.

We have 7 dogs and have be involved with dogs (showing, breeding, and rescue) for years.

We have been interested in creating a small hobby farm and thought chickens would be a good place to start.

The other day I was at the local feed/framers co-op buying corn to bait deer and found a chicken magazine. Then the lady told me to go to their website and check out the one day old birds for sale in the spring. This lead me here when I was researching chicken breeds online and now I AM CHICKEN CRAZY!!!!

I have been reading here nonstop for weeks... thought I should register at some point because I still have a few questions and will post them, hope some of you can answer them.

I look forward to learning, talking and sharing with other members about keeping chickens.

Right now I'm struggling with coop more then anything... I have until spring but I'm not sure if I should convert an old building I have on property or build new. Both have advantages...

from Ohio. My advice is to choose whatever is least expensive to build the largest coop you can. Chickens are like chips, you can't just stop at a few. You will want more and more. So you will need plenty of room.

from Colorado!

And good luck deciding what to do with regards to the coop! I second 4-H Mom, always go bigger than you think you need. I ended up getting a Eglu Cube and now my main regret is that I can't fit more birds! Always leave room for a few more...
