Hi I'm Vicki and new to BYC! Also new to raising chickens! My 3 kids, hubs, and me are loving our new country living and having a great time with our new chickens and goats! Can't wait to start getting more involved in the country/farming lifestyle! We love it!!!! Spent the last 3 years trying to buy a house in the country and it finally happened in March... Now we're raising our chickens and goats! We have 2 goats (1 boer- 5 months, 1 boer/nubian- 3 months) and we have 7 chickens (2 Rhode Island Reds- 16 weeks, 2 Black Australorps- 11 weeks, and 3 Americanas- 11weeks). Our children are Trevor 16, Dominic 6, and Taylyn 2. And of course the dogs... Duke (chow mix) 10y and Boomer (lab/pyrenees) 9months. So that's our family!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Congratulations on your new farm! Good luck with everybody!

Welcome to BYC, Vicki! Glad you decided to join our flock. Sounds like you have lovely farm. Black Australorps are my favorite breed of chicken; very hardy, calm & gentle, & the best layers of the standard, brown egg laying breeds. We used to have some Nubian goats when my children were young & now my son-in-law wants to raise some goats. I'm all for it and willing to help him any way I can. Living on a farm is a great experience for children. Good luck with your farm.

. If you haven't already, take a look at the threads by state. Depending on where you live, there may be some things that are particular to your region...weather tips, meetups, etc. Enjoy your farm life. You've made a great choice for you and your kids.
