Hey menbers!
My wife and I are new to BYC but have gotten a lot of good advice from your site over the last month about our new venture into owning chickens.
As a kid my uncle had a chicken farm with about 1,300 chickens that we would spend summers at, he also grew produce to sell at his roadside store. My experience was limited to cleaning coops and picking out the old hens for "relocation". Recently we had 24 chicks "gifted" to us by my dads friend who ordered 800 straight run chicks to start a farm of his own. Long story short, he gave us one order of 24 of which we were able to give away 20. 3 of our 4 are Jersey Giant and Leghorn hybrids and our other is supposedly a LaRouge which I haven't been able to find any info on. We have gone for the gusto on providing a good habitat for our chickens, we've ordered a "fancy" shed to be converted into our coop following a lot of the guidelines you members have posted. Pictures to follow once we have it built. I'm sure we'll have plenty of questions along the way and look forward to your advice. Thanks!
