Hello! I am a new member! I have been around chickens my whole life starting with my dad and learning from him. About 3 yrs ago I started my life's adventure with a set of 6 ducks that I rescued. From there I began incubating their eggs leading me into a small duck farm of 26 ducks. A mixture of Pekin, Black Swedish and Magpie ducks. Now I have cross breeds between all three. 2 Years ago I then added 6 bantam chicken various breeds ( Silkie, phoenix and so). The chickens have now expanded to about 30 now....lol. Truly though I deal with very difficult work with working with victims of crime so when I was reaching my own mental breaking point roughly about 3 yrs ago and not sure I would be able to continue the work I do those 6 ducks came into my life and saved me. They gave me an outlet to decompress and all I think about is them when I am with them. I am their support as they are mine. They are my kids in heart all 56 of them lol. I don't have kids of my own so they gave me another life's purpose. This journey I have been on with my ducks and chickens gave me a whole new perspective of these birds. They have so much personality and characteristic that I think get overlooked in some ways. I have learned to appreciate them and the blessing they give the word. I hope to continue to share my stories and lessons I've learned over the time to help and inspire new and old enthusiast.
Hi, thsnks for joining and sharing your story! You expressed it so well. It's chickens for me, I don't have ducks, but I agree they certainly are calming and balancing! Enjoy your time here at BYC.
