Welcome to the forum, I am from the Edmonton area too. (That is within an hour of the city)

I didn't know you could get chicks from the UofA program, I thought it was just eggs

We lucked out! Peavey Mart in Spruce Grove and Leduc had chicks for sale for 2 days only this spring. We just happened across them in the store, luckily enough. I think they plan on running something similar again next spring. Peavey had it on their Facebook page if you want to keep an eye open for it. Not sure if you can buy birds direct from the U of A or not but think their egg program is pretty great for those in the City of Edmonton. There is a link on the site to buy chicks but it goes back to the original page, no info there on actually buying them.
Link to their site is https://www.heritagechickens.ca/ for anyone who wants to check it out!

That is awesome, I might have to have my mom on the lookout for them in Leduc for me, I usually pick up from Rochester Hatchery, as I'm only 15 minutes from them.

Not sure if you're interested in any of the cockerels...I have two Barred Rocks, 1 Rhode Island Red and a brown Leghorn from this group. The BRs have great personalities, the RIR is less interested in people but nice enough and the Leghorn already has some attitude, if thats something that matters to you. Message me if you or your mom are interested in any of them!

Thanks, I'm at my Max for boys right now, I ended up with 6/12 EE cockerels this year, and can only overwinter 3, and now I'm considering keeping my grown roo for spring breeding.

I'm going to have to follow your progress; we got our birds from the same place (lots of roosters) and they've been very healthy and happy. The Light Sussex we picked up are both kind of anti-social... and the smaller one is very aggressive.
