Hello I am from the Bahamas and have seen similar chickens here. I am wondering if I should invest the time in some feral ones. How well do yours lay, and what color egg? Any pictures of the eggs?

They are reasonably good layers, but my experience is limited to these chickens, so I have nothing to compare it to. I get about 3 - 4 eggs per chicken per week. The eggs are on the small size, typical for bantams I suppose. I use three of their eggs to equal two large store bought eggs. They are whiteish in colour. They are about 2" long and about 1-3/8" in diameter.

Welcome to BYC!

Henrietta is a lovely lady. I'm curious too what color eggs she lays? And her legs, what color are those?

It's nice to have you here, thank you for sharing the photos!

Her eggs are whiteish, about two inches long and an inch and 3/8ths wide, on the small side, but typical for a bantam I suppose. Her legs seem a little on the green side I think, but hard for me to tell as I have nothing to compare them to. I have now identified her as an Old English Game Bantam Mix, but she's my baby, so that's all that matters. Her and the other five, one of whom I think will be just like her when she matures.

P.S. Your breakfast looked really good!

Stop the presses...you're Scottish?

Me too (partly), my mother is a McDonald.

Slainte!

LOL!!! Yes on both sides of my family. My mother was a Taylor, and there is an enclave of Centers in Aberdeenshire. So I'm guilty as charged!

Good to meet you, we Scots need to stick together. So where in North Florida are you? I have friends in Florida whom I visit occasionally.

@Les Center outstanding picture! Thank you for sharing that.

We're between St. Augustine and Gainesville out in the country where all the live oak trees with Spanish moss are. Where are your friends located?

My mother's dad was the 1st one in his family born in the US. His family was from Ayr. Funny story, about 5 years ago I was working in a gift shop when I met a woman from Ayr and it turned out her husband was a McDonald who was related some how to my granddad's family.

It's a small world!

@NorthFLChick Yes it really is a small world. I have relatives in Orlando, and my best friend lives in Melbourne. I also have ex-band members who live Maitland and Port Charlotte, and an old lover who lives in Jupiter. Time permitting, I try to get to see them all whenever I visit.

McDonald is a huge Scottish clan, mostly from the western highlands. Do you have any tartan apparel? Very cool.
