Hi, I'm a retired teacher and just bought my first chicks. I got 4 and they're all different breeds. They are 2 days old. When can you give them treats like strawberries or parsley? I read those were good. Also, I'd like ideas for making their brooder box, which is a big Rubbermaid tote, more stimulating. Thanks.

Congrats on the new chicks! And welcome to Byc!
The chicks you have purchased will outgrow your tote in a few days. Save the treets until they are older, and stick to chick starter for now.
I hope you have your outside coop ready, because they will need to go out soon. I move my chicks out of the house before they teach 2 weeks. The noise, smell and dust are to much after that.
Good Luck!
And share pictures anytime you can. We love pictures!
Here is one of mine.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Are your coop and run built? If so, they would benefit tremendously by moving outside and into the coop and being brooded with a brooder plate versus being in that tote. Then they can experience the outdoors and will be able to enjoy sun baths, dust bathing, and scratching around in the soil. Put some perches out in the run for them to practice on and they will be much healthier and happier.

Greetings from a fellow Californian. I have no chick advice for you, I have always gotten mine when past that stage, but the learning center has good articles. Reading multiple threads in the chick raising section can be invaluable. Even if you don't have any issues now, it will help you to recognize and treat if they do come up. Welcome to the flock.
