Greetings,
Accepting the invitation to introduce myself.
My family and assorted pets live in hot, humid, central Florida. We've had backyard chickens for a few years now and have also added three ducks to the flock. We started out with five chickens living in our backyard. Recently we moved to a large parcel of land where we have Bears and turkeys and owls and hawks. Yesterday I adopted a very curious looking long legged, long necked rooster and posted a message to see if anyone could give me a heads up on his breed. Hoping he will serve as a bit of protection for the hens.
My hens include a Speckled Sussex, a Welsummer and a Leghorn. The leghorn is about three and a half years old and is a great layer, but extremely skiddish and unfriendly.
The Sussex and welsummer are about a year old and are both nice breeds.
I appreciate this site and have gotten lots of good information and member help when I had a sick hen.
Here is a picture from last night when the hens were checking out the new rooster in their coop. He is hunkered down, hoping they will be nice to them. White chicken started to molt, I think due to stress from the move to our new home.
