People who keep chickens do some really weird stuff.
A few examples;
They put little jackets on their hens that cover the hens back in an attempt to stop the hens feathers getting pulled out during mating.
They cut the roosters spurs! How weird is that? The rooster is supposed to have spurs. Sure, if they are so sharp they damage the hen, filing the point smooth makes sense.
They cut off the roosters comb because some people think this looks better or because the combs may get frostbite.
Some people put baby nappies on chickens that they keep in the house.
I’ve read of people putting golf balls in nests to encourage hens to lay their eggs there.
I let the chickens wander about in my house.:p

Thank you dear Texas Kiki for your kind words, and your video really helped. Thanks a lot.

Welcome. I find the cultural aspects of chicken keeping interesting, too, like others above. Wouldn't it be great if the olive oil trick really worked, and people could keep more roosters? It's probably worth a shot! Anyway, I hope you have fun on BYC.
Thank you very much dear JedJackson, yes it is really fun to see how different cultures try new things. I personally tried that olive oil trick and it worked to some extend, now my rooster crows less than before, and never crows at night (previously he crowed even at night).
