Welcome.
I live in the Redlands not far from you. When your ready for chicks my crazy broodies would be happy to help you out. They love nothing betterthan hatching eggs.

Hi everyone,

I'm new to BYC and chickens. I've wanted fresh eggs forever. We recently moved to Redland so now we have the space. We bought 6 at the feed store. That night a hen that was nesting (apparently longer than we lived here) started making cute little cheep sounds! She hatched 10; she was out foraging with the brood, and she left one. Now we have 7 chicks inside while I build their coop. The surprise hen and 8 chicks outside, one was killed by something last night or this morning. I don't know if momma would go in a coop if we build one. I don't want her or the babies to get hurt. I don't know what type of chicken she is, but from what I have read about brooding hens she seems like she'll be rather nice.

I am so happy to find people with chickens in the area! I have a terrible case of chickens on the brain, and it's so much more fun than unpacking!
