Introduction from Nelson New Zealand. Hi I am really enjoying reading through your site and following the progress of a coop being built. I am in the process of building a new coop and wonder why we don't put the pop hole off the ground, say a metre with a landing platform to stop rats getting in the coop? They and hedgehogs are the main predators here, besides hawks and it would stop having to open the coop each day.

I don't think anything can keep rats from going where they wish.

my brother used to use rat wire on the grass of the run....he had a large barn he built the coop in with a fenced run to one side.
