Hi! New member from Northern Lower Michigan with four, day-old chicks arriving next week! We live in a city and can only have a maximum of six hens (no roosters), but we are starting with four to break ourselves in! We have two Buff Brahmas, one Chocolate Orpington, and one Blue Orpington on the way.
My husband and I are working on converting a portion of our existing 12'x18' shed into the coop and attaching an 8'x12' run off the side. We are so excited to be working on this and teaching our six-year-old kiddo about taking care of animals and responsibility with chores, etc. They are VERY excited! We were out looking at the barns at the county fair two weeks ago and it really built the anticipation!
I have wanted to raise chickens for decades, but only recently decided to take it on. My parents also live in the city, and two of their neighbors have been keeping chickens for years and I have always been so envious.
My husband and I both work full-time and our kiddo just started first grade. We play bi-weekly Dungeons and Dragons with friends, and generally like all things nerd-ish (reading, video games, etc.).
BYC has given me a wealth of knowledge over the last month as I heavily research (hello, ADHD!) all things chicken. Thanks for having me!!
